ABOUT
N'jinga & Mandume
When asked what our mission is, it can be a little hard to explain at first. Not because it is complex or complicated, but because of the passion each of us have for it.
Between the period of 2022 and 2023, research conducted by the Catholic University of Angola Center for Studies and Scientific Research of (CEIC-UCAN) analyzed 50 economies and rated Talatona-Angola as the economy with the highest rate of early-stage entrepreneurship. Half of Angolans consider themselves to be entrepreneurs. With such a large pool of entrepreneurship, one would assume a relative success rate of businesses, but the GEM Angola 2020/2021 study found that four out of five businesses fail. In 2013, some reports showed a failure rate for new businesses to be 24.1%.
With such a high number of entrepreneurships and an almost equal percentage of failure, many attribute this to challenging factors like limited access to finance, economic instability, complex business environment, and a disconnect from a network of mentorships.
The questions of “what do we do?” or “How do we fix this?” in a world that is evolving at light speed due to the growth of technology, is something we’ve asked ourselves for many years… but then it became so obvious. We needed to teach people new ways to learn and think, to problem solve and think outside of the box. To do so, we would need an out-of-the-box method.
Part of the evolving world is the world of video games. Over the years we’ve seen the rise of esports which is predicted to take over the popularity of normal sports. We’ve seen huge job growth in social media by gaming streamers and Let’s Play creators. We’ve even seen games being used for therapy. So why can’t we use it to teach?
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), cross-sectional and longitudinal studies have demonstrated that the experience of video gaming is associated with better cognitive functioning, short-term memory, reaction time, and working memory. The University of Oxford found that video games can have a significant effect on a person’s well-being.
Our program N&M is designed to tap into this. To use the benefits of video games to teach the increasing group of entrepreneur’s soft skills that they have not been developing on their own. We will unlock their minds, forcing them to develop new ways of thinking while increasing their resolves. New bounds will form, and the bonds formed during gaming can go deeper than most other bonds.
Follow us on our mission to improve the world by teaching new ways to think and learn!
